So I tagged along to the New Pornographers show last night, I've only listened to them a little bit (and pretty much love every song I've heard, like this song... Adventures In Solitude). What a disappointing performance! They weren't very engaging and didn't seem to be prepared to be playing. Too bad. (I do really like them though, and they sounded good... when they weren't making mistakes).
Now just looking forward to the An Horse show on Thursday.
one week from today until the biggest sporting event in the world! nothing comes close to this for me...nothing. i can't wait. this commercial is so much fun! i wonder what adidas has in store for world cup.
most everyone lovesss michael bernard fitzgerald... and he just released a video for movie life. its all about mbf having some fun in calgary. ch-ch-ch-check it out. you can read more here
heyyy, so my summer has been busy so far if we can call it summer. this weather sucksss.
what have i been up to? - soccer/running/the gym/yoga - i'm training for my first half marathon! - volunteering - figuring out my future and schooling - applying for jobs - prepping for my trip - the zoo, body worlds - edward sharpe (tomorrow!)
Season finale time = Not a fun time of the year. All the cliff hangers are so intense and so exciting, and then waiting until the fall is painful. Gossip Girl and Grey's Anatomy... WHAT.
i seriously wish i had something cool to report... however, other than listening to lots of music i'm at a loss. i was loving the hot hot heat earlier this week, but i also am enjoying some rain. it smells so fresh and sweet out. lets talk about movies i want to see:
- the trotsky - dinner for schmucks (july 23rd) - the other guys (august 6th) - true grit (december 25th) - the rum diary - you will meet a tall dark stranger
actually...after looking through movie releases for the year there are very few that i'm actually excited about. what a let down. well, lets instead just watch a funny jimmy kimmel clip.
calgary folk fest has a nice line up this year. i want to go - at least on thursday (the same day as wolf parade...)
shortlist of artists:
thursday: natacha atlas, stars, and avett brothers friday: peatbog faeries, swell season, and michael franti and spearhead saturday: greg brown, hill country revue, naomi shelton & the gospel queens, cat empire, and corb lund sunday: konono no. 1, joe henry, st. vincent, and roberta flack
i don't really have any music lists lately, but i have been listening to some really great albums including forgiveness rock record (broken social scene), weapons grade romantic (dojo workhorse), smoking gun (lady of the sunshine), and broken bells (broken bells). on that note this single by broken bells is amazing: the high road
higher ground is one of my favourite coffee establishments in calgary. i haven't met anyone that hasn't liked it, to be fair. its a great independently owned cafe that serves organic drinks. just a sweet spot with a great atmosphere. however, what truly sets higher ground apart for me is one drink: the dublin mist. a mix of an english breakfast tea and irish creme, its the bees knees. i don't know of anywhere else that serves this, but they should. it is amazing.
I think that Mumford & Sons is an unreal band (Have I blogged about them before? Probs not, maybe just in a top5 or top10). These videos are prettyyy awesome:
