book.

here is a quick peek into my current reading list!

  1. no one belongs here more than you, miranda july - so, i think this one was on my first book list.  it took me a couple tries to really get into it, and now i LOVE it.  i even battled motion-sickness on my roadtrip to finish a couple stories (motion-sickness is my number one enemy, ugh).
  2. the picture of dorian gray, oscar wilde - (500) days of summer inspired me to pick this one up, obviously.
  3. revolutionary road, richard yates.
  4. brave new world, aldous huxley - recommended by one of my BFFs, should be excellent.

love, keiko.

p.s.  i started reading #2 poolside in vegas, but i left it out in the sun while in the pool... and the glue melted and the pages started falling out.  this happened to me last summer when i started reading fight club (the only difference is that EVERY page of fight club fell out so it was beyond saving, and this time only 2 pages fell out and i got them back in).

on the topic of trailers.

i was watching the alice in wonderland trailer.
i realized i didn't know where the 'mad hatter's' name originated
i looked it up via wikipedia.
i found this:
  • although the name 'mad hatter' was undoubtedly inspired by the phrase "as mad as a hatter," there is some uncertainty as to the origins of this phrase. as mercury was used in the process of curing felt used in some hats, it was impossible for hatters to avoid inhaling the mercury fumes given off during the hat making process. hatters and mill workers often suffered mercury poisoning as residual mercury vapor caused neurological damage including confused speech and distorted vision. it was not unusual then for hatters to appear disturbed or mentally confused; many died early as a result of mercury poisoning. however, the mad hatter does not exhibit the symptoms of mercury poisoning. principal symptoms of mercury poisoning are "excessive timidity, diffidence, increasing shyness, loss of self-confidence, anxiety, and a desire to remain unobserved and unobtrusive.

on the road.

i am currently in idaho falls, on route to las vegas.  i love road trips and road trip music.  i was unprepared for this one, and didn't get a chance to create a good playlist.  anyway, my weekly ten for the week is really just ten songs ive been listening to quite a bit while driving.

1.  fans - kings of leon
2.  all i ever wanted - mase
3.  because we're dead - slow club
4.  arc of time - bright eyes
5.  make light - passion pit
6.  oversleeping - i'm from barcelona
7.  one chance - modest mouse
8.  million miles - mirah
9.  amour du sol - yelle
10.  paper planes (remix) - m.i.a. ft.  rye rye and afrikan boy.

love, keiko.

p.s.  when we drove into idaho falls this evening we saw a group of ten people cruisin' down the sidewalk on segways (segway city tours? wtf?).  i don't think i had ever seen anyone riding a segway in real life before, so seeing ten of them all in a group was amazing.
