oh mannn i forgot a top ten this week.
definitely been dropping the ball hard.
this is what holidays does to me!
imma post a best of '09 list soon though.

kaur.

elementary watson.

sherlock holmes: A

i went into this movie with low expectations, because i've read all the holmes stories and saw the trailer and felt that they glamourized it waaaaay too much. well regardless of making sherlock into a big budget movie...it was gooood. guy ritchie ain't that bad. robert downey jr. (i like em) did a good job playing holmes definitely playing up the crazy side...though i never thought of holmes as much of a fighter...hmm. oh, and jude law...gotta say he did a great job too. i figured that having such big names playing these characters would make the movie less believable and all i would see is downey jr. and law instead of holmes and watson, but nope i was wrong. i wasn't a huuuge fan of rachel mcadams. oh, and the story line i was skeptical about with all the black magic going on, but in the end i didn't mind. in itself i felt that small details in the movie really made it what it was - the way sherlock would explain his thought process in slow motion and then go through with it. oh! and the way that at the end of the movie he explains exactly how he figured everything out...just like the stories! i'm glad that professor moriarity played a role in it and i can't wait for the next one. apparently they want brad pit to play moriarity...i dunno how i feel about that. anyways, i liked this movie and would suggest seeing it. its definitely entertaining!

kaur.
ps. who knew that movies were $6.99 on tuesdays? i sure didn't...but thats awesome.

squirrel.

i love the movie up. i loved dug.
'i have just met you, and i love you' is my favourite line.

go.

Movies, movies, movies. This morning my aunt and I thought up a list of movies to see while she's in town for the holidays, here is what we came up with:
  • Up In The Air
  • The Hurt Locker
  • An Education
  • New York, I Love You
  • The Young Victoria
And here are some that I want to see that didn't make the list...
  • Precious (she has already seen it)
  • Brothers (I love Natalie... and Jake)
  • Fantastic Mr. Fox
  • The Invention of Lying
Love, Keiko.

p.s. Christmas eve!!!!

what's in your backpack?

i saw up in the air last night!!!
here's a review.

up in the air: A
liked it a lot...not sure if i loved it. i'll try not to give anything away, but i felt as though things worked out a little too perfectly for my liking. i liked all the actors and actresses a lot, they all did a bang on job. seriously though...george clooney can do no wrong. the guy is swauve and smooth just like he is supposed to be. i almost felt though this character was written for him. actually...for some reason i feel as though the film's writer did in fact write the part for george. anyways, the music, cinematography, style everything was perfect. i walked away with lots to think about and okay...i change my mind i loved it. i don't know if its going to walk away with lots of awards this season simply because i don't know if the concept is strong enough for what awards are normally given for. its not about war or racism or a huge musical hit, its just a simple slick movie about relationships. hmm...i gotta run so i can't write more...i did like this movie and i'd recommend it.

fuck bitches.get money.

on the topic of rap music. i love it. even though it can be incredibly crass. whether its 'splash waterfalls' or 'milkshake'...there are seriously some terrible messages being sent across. what i reaaally wanted to talk about though was r.kelly. anyone here his song 'pregnant'? okay...here's the opening lines to the song:

girl you make me wanna get you pregnant,
girl you make me wanna get you pregnant,
lay your body down and get you pregnant,

knock you up, pregnant, knock you up, pregnant

rightttt....r kelly needs help. i realized this after watching far too many chapters of the 'trapped in the closet' series to admit.

anyways...here's take your shirt off by t.pain (love this song, but its sooo bad)

raise it up

After watching the video Kaur just posted, the Florence one, I miss long hair. I recently cut my hair off (to my shoulders), and I think Florence's hair is gorgeous... I wish it were mine. Anyway, here's a Florence song that I'm digging right now RAISE IT UP (SWITCH REMIX).

Love, Keiko.

lights + glitter

can you tell i'm bored yet?
here's some sparkly videos.

5) little bit - drake (ft. lykke li)
6) your protector - fleet foxes

glorious basterds.

inglourious basterds: A+

so i realized i never did a review for inglorious basterds even though i saw it right when it came out. i just watched it again this morning. i am a quentin tarantino fan through and through, so needless to say i loved it. it's totally entertaining, gruesome, indulgent, and ridiculous...but so much fun! christoph waltz was menacing and loveable somehow at the same time, and his performance is absolute perfection. the performances by brad and co. were also great and i have nothing really bad to say about this movie. love the style. love the story. love the movie.

blaaaaagh. bored.

more things that kept me entertained/busy while 'studying':
- people of walmart: www.peopleofwalmart.com
- let me google that for you: www.lmgtfy.com
- why the f*** do you have a kid: www.whythefuckdoyouhaveakid.com
- ugliest tattoos: www.ugliesttattoos.com
- this is why you're deleted: http://tiwyd.tumblr.com
- picture is unrelated: www.pictureisunrelated.com
- sexypeople: www.sexypeople-blog.com

thats it...not that great.

kaur.
ps. im so excited! my friend gave me the 'stuff white people like' book for christmas!

done.

now what.
finishing exams is so anti-climactic.

kaur.

funny people not being so funny.

funny people: b-

adam sandler = abbrasive, i couldn't sympathise with him at all
seth rogen = saved this movie for me...funny and adorable
leslie mann = whateverrr
eric bana = so sick of his accent so quick
jason schwartzman = i lubadubdub him all the time
jonah hill = annoying as always
aubrey plaza = non-factor
aziz ansari = aighttt
eminem = surprise?

i gave it a b- 'cause i found it awkward and liked the music...otherwise it was too long and not that funny. it was an okay movie which really lacked cohesiveness and any real point (i thought). i still liked it though for some reason. i also liked stranger than fiction though...which most people didn't like, so remember my review is subjective. i still thought it was too long.

kaur.

You were out of my league.

1. True Affection - The Blow
2. Young Adult Friction - The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart
3. The Orchard - Sea Wold
4. Tonight I Have To Leave It - Shout Out Louds
5. Got 'Til It's Gone - Janet Jackson
6. Know Better Learn Faster - Thao with the Get Down Stay Down
7. Addicted To Love - Florence And The Machine
8. I'll Fight - Wilco
9. Electric Feel - MGMT (Justice Remix)
10. Shame On Me - Amanda Blank

Love, Keiko.

p.s. I feel a bit of a Janet Jackson kick comin' on, mostly Velvet Robe (it's probably one of my fave albums - I remember the day I bought it, I don't remember how old I was, but it was sometime in elementary and it was winter and I made my dad take me to future shop to buy it).

yes!

I'm just going to add on to all of Kaur's posts today...

Tegan's (print for the Love Unites Shepard Fairey Equality Project - For the FAIR organization + awareness for marriage equality):

and Sara's:

Pretty awesome, if you ask me.

Love, Keiko.

I do what I want, too.

What do I want?
  • Snowboard more than once this season.
  • Celebrate the end of statistics - worst time of my life (with an 8am exam).
  • Give up on studying and make mixes and christmas cards (only one exam left!).
  • Take LOTS of photos.
  • Banff day.
  • Bowling with a BFF (comes home Monday!).
  • Family Q.T.
  • Holiday baking (gingerbread houses...)
  • Zoolights! Tobogganing! (I put these two together because I have a brand new parka that will keep me nice and warm for both).
  • Have the best break ever, basically.
  • Start thinking of a 2010 to-do list.
Love, Keiko.

kaur.

its tough being king.

i watched the lion king the other day because it was one of my favourite movies as a kid.

where'd he go?

kaur.
ps. i sorta want to watch ill be home for christmas now just 'cause he's in it...even though its cheesy

i do what i want.

- to bake and toboggan

- to fall in love with a new band/artist (last year was bon iver, this year it was phoenix & the xx)
- to buy new books and read them all

kaur.

obey.

shepard fairey has come under some controversy as to his artwork.
i still think its pretty legit.
he started off in the skateboarding scene and got involved in streetart.
now he's responsible for the iconic obama 'hope' poster.

imma be.

i should have known today was going to suck as soon as i slipped and fell in my driveway.
i woke up extra early to get a bunch done today and got dressed up all nice.
too bad i forgot my wallet at home.
i ended up wasting half my day which i could have used to study.
when i got back home with a throbbing knee i decided that i might as well watch a movie.
i decided to watch (500) days of summer...i forgot how heartbreaking it was.
poor choice, 'cause now i don't feel like doing anything.
anyways...
in order to motivate myself i'm going to make a list of all the fun things i'm going to do during break!

- snowboard any chance i get
- get back into doing hot yoga
- watch all the movies i've been meaning to see
- read all the books i've been meaning to read
- knit a new scarf and hopefully some mittens
- go christmas shopping
- go out for dinner (i haven't gone out for dinner in agesss...since summer i'm sure)
- tobaggan
- skate (i have a newfound love for skating)
- go see zoolights! (i say i'm going to go every year but have never gone)
- hopefully hit up the banff hotsprings
- be more interesting and blog more
- shoot a glock at the shooting range

that's really all...in fact i don't have all that much to look forward to except for the fact that i won't have to worry about school.
i guess thats nice.

kaur.
ps. i really feel like watching love, actually...so cute and christmas-y

guaranteed.

watching into the wild never fails to get my eyes watering.
i don't know what it is, but i find it incredibly sad...yet its one of my fave movies.

wintertime

Since I am already two days late, I'm skipping my weekly music list. (I have a good excuse, I was busy in Vancouver... and the five songs wouldn't be all that impressive anyway).

A quick to-do list (taking a 1:00am break from writing my statistics assignment).

1.  Buy a parka.
2.  Begin work on making beautiful mixes as christmas gifts.
3.  Ace final exams.
4.  Organize my christmas shopping/christmas holiday activities (aka make lists of everything).
5.  SNOWBOARD.

Love, Keiko.

p.s. I really need a parka...

November was the lowest blog post count yet. One of my goals for the new month is to be more interesting/engaging, like old times. I will create lists, and post pictures (take pictures, too), and discover new music, and share new music, and talk about all of my favourite things. I promise that this will happen, once the semester is over (and Stats is done ruining my life... until next year, when I take my Stats II course - It was supposed to be next semester, but I don't think I could handle another semester of it).

Lately I've been listening to...

1. Rachael Cantu - I was all about Rachael Cantu in grade 12 when she released her first album, Run All Night...(Saturday= my fave song off it). I was pretty stoked when her new album, Far and Wide, came out a couple weeks ago, and I've been listening to it a bunch since. Overall I am diggin' it more than Run All Night, it's got the same feel and it pretty similar... just better. My fave song is Your Hips Are Bad - Back when I was still a frequent myspace user (2007?) this song was on her page and I loved it and was always super bummed that I couldn't find a download of it anywhere.

2. Tender Forever - I forget when I picked up her album (spring? early summer? late winter? who knows)... I didn't listen to much of it other than the song that I knew I liked (How Many) (I fell in love when I saw the cover she did of JT's My Love... I know I blogged about it). Last week someone that I follow on Twitter tweeted about her A LOT so I decided to give her another more thorough listen.

3. The Blow - Tender Forever sometimes reminds me of The Blow, so after listening to her for awhile I had to dig out the album Paper Television (I never got around to uploading it when I got my new Macbook last year). I forgot how into The Blow I used to be. Parenthesis is my fave song - so fun and so cute. Or maybe True Affection is my favourite.

4. Wolf Parade - I was really into Wolf Parade at the same time that I was into The Blow (winter '06/'07 these were my two fave bands), so naturally I've also been listening to the album Apologies To The Queen Mary (because their second album was shit).

Love, Keiko.

I wish

I wish that I had started watching this season of sytycd from the start. I forgot that it was even going on right now until someone that I follow tweeted about it. I don't know how I feel about multiple seasons per year, I think it's a little much - and part of my love for sytycd came from that it aired during the summer, when there's no good TV and no school... so I could just watch it all the time.

Love, Keiko.

on a more serious note...

this is the 1994 pulitzer prize winning photo taken during the sudanese famine by kevin carter a member of the 'bang-bang club' - a group of 4 south african photojournalists active during the apartheid. it depicts a little girl crawling to a united nations food camp while a vulture has landed waiting for the carrion. kevin carter, the first journalist to photograph the public executioning by necklacing (putting a tire around the arms and chest of a human and setting it on fire) commited suicide soon after taking this photograph.

I love Kristen Stewart.

The other night I was at my parents' house, and someone said something mean about Kristen Stewart and I got a bit defensive because I love her. (Ugh, just checked Perez - which I rarely do these days, and the first thing is talking shit about her).

This is something like how the conversation went:

Sister - "Yeah, Tarz love Kristen Stewart..."
Me - "It's true, I do."
Mom - "She is just so weird and awkward."
Me - "Well I like her, she is cool."
Mom - "I feel like you two should be friends. I saw that interview, and I think you could be friends. You seem kind of similar."

I wish that I was friends with Kristen.

Love, Keiko.

Ohbijou.

On Wednesday I went to see Ohbijou play at Marquee. I'd listened to them a little before, but wasn't all that impressed. For me, they are the kind of band that you have to see live to fully fall in love with them, and now I love them. So beautiful.

xoxo gossip girl.

So, I stopped watching Gossip Girl after the first 2 episodes aired. I started to fall behind, and decided that it would be a good idea to just wait until the season ends to watch it all at once. Today I was bored, and am caught up in all of the other shows I like to follow, so I watched all of the episodes that I missed. People had been telling me that this season isn't very good, so I wasn't expecting much out of it - but I LOVE it. Sure, it probably isn't as entertaining/exciting as previous seasons, but whatever, I like it.

just blog!

I hate times like these when I feel like school+work take up all of my time (which isn't too terrible, I mean, I am getting pretty sweet marks so far... better than ever!). I feel so boring, especially going back a reading some previous months blog posts. I've been sitting here for a while trying to think of something worthwhile to blog about, and I just feel like i have nothing to say. Which, really, is stupid, because I've done some fun stuff the past little while.

I guess I will just make a list of six things that I am looking forward to:

  1. Ohbijou playing @ Marquee on Wednesday.
  2. SWTBTZ @ Habitat on Thursday.
  3. SNOWBOARDING.
  4. The (nearing) end of the semester.
  5. Learning to knit.
  6. Friends home for the holidays.

There are more, but six is enough. Well, there is also the obvious - UNDER A WEEK UNTIL NEW MOON!!!

Love, Keiko.
